Hemia Calpini Original Art
This is from a set of paintings on celluloid depicting Fairy Tales. It's possible this is the Frog Prince, though frogs were often featured in the old fairy tales as they symbolized transformation, hidden worth, and transition from innocence to maturity.
As per CartoonResearch.com, Hemia joined her brother Orestes as a set and background artist on Gulliver's Travels and the subsequent and final Fleischer feature Mr. Bug Goes to Town in 1941. Hemia was a fine painter whose silkscreen work is still available at auctions. Her work likely appears in the scene where the bugs gather the necessities for Honey's wedding in Mr. Bug Goes to Town.
Calpini treats this medium as it were fine art, painstakingly rendering these beautiful scenes which would be too time consuming in a production of an animated film. The decision to place the painted cel on top of the silk has likely preserved the paint all of these years.
The art board measures 20" x 15" while the cel measures 10" x 7.75"
The cel has fused to the backing fabric, which appears to be silk. Peg holes (half) are visible along the extreme left edge of the cel.
Comes with Wonderful World of Animation Gallery Certificate of Authenticity, which acts as a Lifetime Guarantee.
