Pie Eyed Mickey Mouse Drawings

Vintage Disney Animation Art from 1929-1931 Era

Disney’s musical mouse debuted in Steamboat Willie in 1928. Of his first twenty cartoons, eight were based on a musical theme, revue or recital. Mickey is seen here, in this collection of early animation drawings, in a scene that is reminiscent of his first musical high jinx. These exciting drawings depict a much younger, “pie-eyed” mouse! Mickey’s gloves were introduced in the 1929 release of The Opry House, the same year we see the onset of his cornered or pied eyes. The studio stopped animating Mickey with “pie-eyes” just a year later, in 1930 (still releasing some of the shorts in 1931). These are very rare and exciting drawings!
