Character drawing of a woman This drawing was most likely done between the late 1980s or early 1990s. Burton was known to carry around sketchbooks, and like other pieces we have had in the past, this drawing is from one of those sketchbooks. The initials "K.B.F" are in the lower right hand corner and it is our belief that this stands for "Knott's Berry Farm" as the location for this character. This piece measures 9.0" x 6.0". As visible in the web image, there is a faint discoloration by the upper left corner. The paper has a tinge of color change at the outer right edge which can be easily matted out. (unframed). | Doctor Maxwell Payne | |||||

|
Character drawing of Doctor Maxwell Payne and Nurse Walter This amazing, early drawing comes from a classmate of Burton's while they were students together at Cal Arts. The characters are from his Senior film, "Stalk of the Celery Monster" circa 1979 and the text on the page reads: "Nurse Walter" and "Doctor Maxwell Payne, D.D.S" and "Just a reminder- I am opening an office in New York City on 42nd and Madison. See you soon (twice a year)." Though the film is hard to come by, there are versions available on YouTube, and the character image of the Doctor is a Dead Ringer! What with the huge success of the recent Tim Burton retrospecitves at MoMA in New York and LACMA in Los Angeles, this is a huge opportunity to own an original artwork by this artistic legend in the making! The paper has a tinge of discoloration throughout. As visible in the image, there is a tear in the middle peg hole and evidence of handling on the upper left corner and along the upper edge. There is a minor tear 5 mm wide along the top edge of the paper and 3" from the upper right corner. The size of this piece is 12 Field (11"x13") and the character size is 11.75" h x 8" w. (unframed). Twenty Faces of Jack Sculpture of Jack Skellington Have you ever seen the set of Jack Skellington head models signed by Tim Burton called the "Twelve Faces of Jack?" Well, this is a set of those same head maquettes except there are 20 different expressions instead of 12 and these were made from the actual molds used in the production! The heads used in the movie were made from molds. Because they were under camera so much and were handled frequently (mounted on the bodies to change facial expressions, etc.) they had to have multiple sets of all of the heads with specific expressions. In fact, there was a ten-person mold-making department on the set that did this for all of the characters. These pieces were made from those molds used in the production, and this set includes twenty different expressions of Jack Skellington, though these heads were not actually under camera--they were made from the original movie molds before they were destroyed but not actually screen-used. We do not know if they are "spares" per se or just extras that were made for people who worked on the movie before the set was struck. An excellent and unique collectors piece and a Must Have!!! This is framed in a deep box which measures 22" x 19" with a depth of 3.75". Each head is approximately 1.5" high. (framed). TBAFOJ |
