Kate was born and raised in Newburgh, NY, and attended schools in New York and Pittsburgh, PA. She is a self-taught artist who has also been a yoga and meditation teacher. Having studied Asian philosophy since the 1960's and Asian brush painting since 1988, her early traditional work stands alone. Kate now wraps these 18 years of art practice into "Art Stories" and abstractions created with many layers of Golden fluid acrylics. In between the transparent layers are metals, foils, sand, photo transfers, paper, fabric, prints of parts of her body and other things that assert themselves. She works flat, on many pieces at a time which keeps her out of her head about forcing a direction too early. Using bold, pure color, strong contrast, and heavy textural elements, she hopes viewers will want to touch and then disappear into the work's beauty and magic.
