Master set-up of Alice from Alice in Wonderland and Tweedledee Alice looks on politely as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum begin to dance the story of The Walrus and the Carpenter or The Story of the Curious Oysters. This is a fantastic master set-up of Alice and two of animations most nonsensical characters. All three are full figures with wide eyes and expressive faces. The master background is a fantastic example of Mary Blair’s influence on color styling of the film. The background appears at 31:36. The cel of Alice appears flipped in the film, which was common in this feature. The frame measures 21" x 22". Price is reflective of the art only--the piece comes with the frame pictured. There is no change in price due to the frame--it can be de-framed upon request at purchase, but it will not change the price of the piece. The characters have been trimmed and applied to the background. Production background of a castle This piece measures 12" x 15.5". Sweeping in medieval grandeur, this is a supreme example of the Disney background painter’s skill. The castle is lit in intimate detail against the night’s sky, leaving everything else in despondent shadows. As background paintings go through several stages in the course of production, this exact image did not make the final cut. The reverse side is stamped as "Property of Walt Disney Productions," and references the precise film, sequence, and scene numbers for production. There is slight wear around the extreme upper edges as well as the lower left-hand corner. The character size is 3" h x 2.5" w. US$ 10000 (unframed). WDAKM9 |

Master set-up of some cookies Gingerbread men parade goers get a great seat for the Cookie Carnival. This master set-up sets the scene for the entire story. The participants of the cookie parade all must make their entrance through the filigreed Arch of Beauty This set-up is a marvelous example of the depth and perspective found in master backgrounds. The viewer must look through the stone arch in the foreground to see the grandeur and excitement beyond the Arch of Beauty! This background appears in the opening scene of the film while the parade marches in. The cookies in the cel do not appear in the film. Cel has become slightly wavy which is fairly common for vintage animation cels. The light reflection is only visible in the web image only and is not on the actual piece. There is evidence of paint loss in the two cookies furthest to the left as well as the three cookies on the right hand side. The background consists of two layers, which are held together by staples along the top edge, which can easily be matted out. Key master set-up of Girl Cookie The Cookie Queen’s first decree is to save the Hobo Cookie and crown him her king! She leans forward in her frosting frock and points her pretty finger his way effectively stopping the cookie guards from escorting him off. The cels have been stapled to the background in each corner. Two of the pegholes have been cut away and there are pencil production marks along the extreme lower edge which state: "Use the peg holes" and there are circles drawn in pencil around them, all of which can easily be matted out. The film's directors created these fantastically long backgrounds in which a character could be animated on the move. Key master set-up of Bianca and Bernard This Key Master set up of Bernard, Bianca, Madame Medusa, Mr. Snoops, Nero and Brutus is truly remarkable. This setup can be seen at 44:49 in the film and is comprised of 5 original production cels and master background. Medusa reclines on the tatty couch as she prepares to pounce on Mr. Snoops for letting Penny escape. Bernard and Bianca look on from the shadows of low table. Every character in this set-up is caught displaying the personality that they portray throughout the film. The crocodiles patiently wait to do their master’s biding, Medusa lazily sneers, Mr. Snoops cringes at Medusa’s scolding, and the story’s heroes bravely watch as they hear Medusa’s plan for the first time. This is a must have for any die hard The Rescuers fan. The cels are stapled to the background with three staples along the extreme lower edge. Production cel and production background of Mickey Mouse The cel is from Traffic Troubles, while the background is from the Walt Disney film "Duck Hunt" from 1932. This is an incredibly rare example of the early Disney animation. In Traffic Troubles Mickey not so successfully tries his hand at driving a taxi. In this cel set-up we see Mickey and his dilapidated car trying to navigate the road. It is clear from this piece that the animators were not afraid of using a site gag or two to tantalize the audience. The tires are inexpertly patched, the taxi seems to be yelling “Oh No!”, and the bulge that drags the back of the cab is from the considerable weight of his passenger, Percy Pig. This cel has been paired with a delicate landscape master background from another classic short The Duck Hunt. A lovely pastoral scene sits on the horizon while happy flowers dance in the foreground. The size of this piece is 12 Field (11"x13") US$ 24000 (unframed). WDMCS4 |
