Production drawing of Donald Duck This is a unique drawing of a very wide-eyed Donald; the pupils are wider than usual! There is a possibility that this was a conceptual sketch or rough animation of Donald Duck from "Donald's Lucky Day" (1939) where he was wearing the same outfit with the bomb-filled package. The number 45 appears on the lower right hand corner of the composition. There is a discoloration of the edges due to age which can be matted out for display if desired. The size of this piece is 12 Field (11"x13") US$ 195 (unframed). WDDMB254 |

Model drawing of some men From the estate of Norman Wright These men are wonderfully and expressively rendered. This piece is attributed to Winged Scourge, a goodwill piece made for South America in order to educate people about Malaria and simple things people could do to stop mosquitoes. In an article from Fortune Magazine, it covers a meeting between Walt and his animators in dealing with this film and focuses on Walt's great abilities as a teacher. There is evidence of small staple holes in each extreme corner, as well as a miniscule area of missing paper due to a staple in the upper left hand corner, which measures .25". Each of these minor imperfections can be easily matted out. The size of this piece is 12 Field (11"x13") US$ 295 (unframed). Add this piece to your collection for only US$59 a month. WDAWF24 |

Production drawing of some horses and a stagecoach driver This is a rough study of a busy center ring of a circus, featuring horses, a dancing girl, and a decorated stage coach with a driver. There is some darkening of the edges of the paper which is characteristic of drawings on paper from this era. There is a noticeable fold on the upper right hand corner and some minor creasing along the top edge of the paper. Two of the circular peg holes have tears. All of these minor imperfections do not detract from viewing the main image and can be matted out for display if so desired. The size of this piece is 16 Field (13"x16") and the size of the image is 8" h x 11" w. US$ 295 (unframed). Add this piece to your collection for only US$59 a month. WDDMB335 |

There is noticeable darkening of the edges characteristic of pieces from this era. Also, there is a half inch long tear on the top edge of the piece as well as on two of the circular peg holes which fortunately do not reach the actual drawings and can be easily matted out for display if so desired. Storyboard of Pluto and a man The image is repeated on both sides of this truly unique storyboard and there are two storyboards included. Used as a means to direct the action of a story, these drawings are often created, critiqued, crumbled up and thrown away. Artists need to adapt to changing story ideas, and here we see just that. While Pluto was initially situated to the right side of the frame, the story changed and the paper flipped for a reverse image of the same scene – this time with Pluto to the left and in slightly more detail. On each of the drawings, there is evidence of pin holes toward the extremes of the upper left and right hand corners as well as below the image which can be easily matted out. This is common for this type of production art. The size of the image is 5.5" h x 7.25" w. US$ 750 (unframed). Add this piece to your collection for only US$150 a month. WDD43A |

Production drawing of Mickey Mouse This nice red and black pencil drawing of Mickey, with the shadow denoted in green pencil, hails from the Mickey and the Beanstalk segment of the film. Production drawing of Willie the Whale Our dear fellow is singing his heart out, as was his dream to sing at the Metropolitan Opera. Production drawing of Willie the Whale This expressive drawing shows Willie from "The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met" section of Make Mine Music. Willie is hard to come by and would make a fabulous addition to any Vintage Disney collection! This particular sequence of The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met was later re-released by RKO Pictures in 1954 as its own short called "Willy the Operatic Whale". Willy himself was voiced by the versatile Nelson Eddy who sang in bass, baritone, tenor, and soprano and also served as the narrator. He is hunted by the Metropolitan Opera impresario, Tetti Tatti, who mistakenly assumed that this whale has swallowed an opera singer. A quote from the ending of the movie (after Tetti Tatti is successful in causing the whale’s demise) is: "Now Willie will never sing at the Met. But don't be too harsh on Tetti Tatti. He just didn't understand. You see, Willie's singing was a miracle, and people aren't used to miracles...but miracles never die. And somewhere in whatever heaven is reserved for creatures of the deep, Willie is still singing..." Note the key of 29-32 on the right-hand side. Mickey and the Beanstalk
(1947)
Storyboard of Willie the Giant What a wonderful storyboard of Willie the Giant! This piece does a great job of visually preserving the actuality that Willie’s character was still in its development phases at the time that the storyboards for the film were created. Here, we see the antagonist presented as a hygienically challenged and frighteningly ugly oaf, boasting crazed eyes, gnarly teeth, cauliflower ears, clusters of lumpy facial warts and chipped dirty nails—the imagined smell of this monster would be enough to scare anyone. However, the final depiction of Willie was much more like our loveable dwarf, Dopey, than that of a scary giant. In the film, Willie is an amiable, but annoying giant with bright red clown like hair and nose with a mouth that looks as if he has just consumed 50 red popsicles. The animators did choose to keep his pear shaped oversized face, in order to reveal his ultimately small brain size. Willie was no ordinary giant; he could shrink and dissipate as well as turn himself into other animate objects, this due to his self professed knowledge that he knows the "magic wordies". The cartoon was produced as one of two shorts featured in the film, Fun and Fancy Free, which Jiminy Cricket served as the charming segment presenter. The storyboard comes from the esteemed estate collection of c.1940s Disney animator, Norman Wright. The artwork measures 8.75" x 8.25". There is evidence of staple holes towards the extremes of the upper left and right hand corners which can be easily matted out. As pinning up storyboards for evaluation was often part of the creative process, this is fairly common for this type of work. The size of the image is 5" h x 7" w. US$ 975 (unframed). Add this piece to your collection for only US$195 a month. WDDWF7 |

Production drawing of some ducklings In anticipation on his first full length animated feature, Walt Disney used Silly Symphonies as a testing ground to master the effects necessary to play out on the big screen. The Old Mill tested many of these effects, such as water reflections, wind, rain, and "sunset effects" as noted in the upper right hand corner of this original production drawing. The short proved to be an invaluable experiment, but was also quite a success in its own right - winning an Academy Award in 1937. During his near-twenty year run at Disney, Gustaf Tenggren worked primarily as a background and concept artist, leading the workforce of some 700 various artists working with the animations. His Scandinavian influences gave many of Disney’s films their characteristic "old world" feel. As visible in the image, there is evidence of staple holes in each corner, which can be easily matted out.
