Disney Studios (c. 1940s) Press proof of Jose Carioca, Mickey Mouse and Goofy. Framed to 25.5" X 19.5". Original ink proof of two Sunday comic strips dated January 30, 1944. There are very few full press proofs such as this thought to be in existence. Wonderful World of Animation is honored that the Basmajian family has selected us as the exclusive gallery to represent their collection. We all have the Basmajian family to thank for introducing the world to the joy of collecting animation art. In 1984, Disney animator John Basmajian teamed up with Christie’s to launch the first ever animation art auction. Despite a court case brought by Disney days before the auction, the judge ruled that the art was rightfully John’s and that he was allowed to sell it. Thanks to John’s vision to rescue these treasures and the courage to stand up for what he believed in, a new collectable was born. The auction was a huge success and made national news. Framing was done prior to its arrival at WWA thus the list price is reflective of the art only--the piece comes with the frame pictured. There is no change in price due to the frame--it can be de-framed upon request at purchase but will not change the price of the piece.
