Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom (1953)|
Master background of Professor Owl.
Famed conceptual artist Eyvind Earle was credited as a color stylist in the 1953 film “Toot Whistle Plunk Boom”. Earle gained popularity at Disney for his work on Peter Pan and Sleeping Beauty, but his contributions to shorts like this helped give animation as an art form artistic heft.
The framed piece measures 20.25" X48.5" while the aperture measures 9.75" X 38".
This background appears from 0:37 to 0:39 seconds in the film.
There is some paint separation, cracking and lifting, throughout the character Professor Owl with miniscule paint loss in the right foot and miniscule line wear in the rims of the glasses. The character appears to be trimmed from its original cel and affixed to the background. As is visible in the web image, there are some areas of liquid stains in the background located halfway across the top.
Signed by Eyvind Earle.
