Mickey and the Beanstalk (1947)
Storyboard of Willie The Giant.

What a wonderful storyboard of Willie the Giant! This piece does a great job of visually preserving the actuality that Willie’s character was still in its development phases at the time that the storyboards for the film were created. Here, we see the antagonist presented as a hygienically challenged and frighteningly ugly oaf, boasting crazed eyes, gnarly teeth, cauliflower ears, clusters of lumpy facial warts and chipped dirty nails—the imagined smell of this monster would be enough to scare anyone. However, the final depiction of Willie was much more like our loveable dwarf, Dopey, than that of a scary giant. In the film, Willie is an amiable, but annoying giant with bright red clown like hair and nose with a mouth that looks as if he has just consumed 50 red popsicles. The animators did choose to keep his pear shaped oversized face, in order to reveal his ultimately small brain size. Willie was no ordinary giant; he could shrink and dissipate as well as turn himself into other animate objects, this due to his self professed knowledge that he knows the "magic wordies". The cartoon was produced as one of two shorts featured in the film, Fun and Fancy Free, which Jiminy Cricket served as the charming segment presenter. The storyboard comes from the esteemed estate collection of c.1940s Disney animator, Norman Wright.
The artwork measures 8.75" x 8.25".

There is evidence of staple holes towards the extremes of the upper left and right hand corners which can be easily matted out. As pinning up storyboards for evaluation was often part of the creative process, this is fairly common for this type of work..

The size of the image is 5" h x 7" w.
