Sleeping Beauty (1959) Production drawing of Maleficent (as Dragon). Maleficent is one of the most terrifying villains in Disney history when she is in her normal form, but as a dragon she brings a whole new meaning to intimidation. This production drawing captures the feeling of looking up at the immense demon as it is drawn from Phillip’s point of view. From the Dragon’s breast is sticking The Sword of Truth which inevitably brings down the evil that haunts Prince Phillip and Princess Aurora. Being the design for the ultimate action climax of “Sleeping Beauty,” this production drawing has a great place in animation history.
