Wynken Blynken And Nod (1938)|
Courvoisier cel of Wynken, Blynken and Nod.
This is the most spectacular Courvoisier from Wynken, Blynken and Nod that we have seen. This cartoon is special for many reasons, but especially because it represents one of the earliest uses of the multiplane camera which added depth of focus and a new unexpected dimension to the dreamlike quality of this film. The cel shows three little boys sailing through the evening sky in a wooden clog, fishing for twinkly yellow stars. The background is painted in opulent shades of blue and green on a wood veneer panel, while the three boys, their boat and the stars have been classically trimmed to figure in the Courvoisier style. Even the effects cel depicting the milky cosmos wake has been preserved in this ensemble. At the end of the cartoon, the viewer is made aware that the boys and their adventures in the night sky, are the subjects of a dream that one little boy is having while sleeping peacefully in his cradle. This cel would pair beautifully with the cel that we are also featuring of that cute sleeping boy, WDCMT2.
The cel measures 10" x 12.5".
The 'Star Fish' have separated from the background. Still in great condition for a vintage cel and we do not recommend restoration unless to move the cel back into position.
As visible in the image, there is slight paint loss along the lower hull of the boat.
The size of the image is 2" h x 3.75" w.
