Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Concept piece of Alice.
Early on it was clear that Walt had an affinity for the great Lewis Carroll double masterpiece, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1872). In both1923 and1936, he produced shorts that revolved around the subject matter of Carroll’s great novels, and it was no surprise that he later decided to create a feature film. The Alice in Wonderland project fascinated and bewildered Walt and much of the inspiration art which Mary Blair created for the film did come through on screen.
Here we see the beautiful little Alice standing in the forest which exists somewhere in a magical world beneath the rabbit hole from which she fell. She pauses here for a moment, probably to talk to one of the fantastic creatures that she meets while on her hunt for the allusive White Rabbit. The background is filled with earthy hues and is complimented by the pink star like blossoms that line her path.
This piece measures 7" x 9". There is evidence of a pin hole towards the edge of each corner, outside of the image, which can be easily matted out..
The size of the image is 4.75" h x 3.25" w. US$ 11500 (unframed) WDAPP5
