Concept piece of The Mock Turtle.
The story of the Mock turtle and the Gryphon was originally included in the script for Alice in Wonderland, but ultimately cut from the film in editing. This concept of the Mock Turtle includes elements from Carroll’s original description including the sad grey eyes and flipper hands.
This piece measures 4.0" x 5.13".
There is evidence of pin holes along the upper edge located halfway across and between the center and left corner. As pinning up art for evaluation was often part of the creative process, this is fairly common for this type of work. There are very light creases throughout; evidence of handling which is common for this type of work.
