Fantasia (1940) Concept piece of Hyacinth Hippo and Ali Gator. This is a beautiful watercolor concept of ballet’s greatest animated couple. Here we see the unlikely pair in the throws of their complicated pas de deux. This piece is a fine example of the creative process that the characters and scenes go through before finally making it to the big screen. Ben Ali Gator’s feather is red in the concept and in the film it is actually blue, and Hyacinth loses her diaphanous headdress all together in the final draft. The artwork measures 9" x 10.5" while the image area measures 8" x 9.25". As is common with this type of artwork, there are pin holes in each extreme corner and in the center along the extreme top edge, all of which exist outside of the image area..
