The Secret of Nimh (1982) Production cel of The Great Owl and Mrs. Brisby. Don Bluth’s directorial debut, “The Secret of NIMH”, while perhaps not a commercial success, did garner critical acclaim as being one of the most vibrantly animated films ever made. That statement is wholly supported by this beautiful production cel of Mrs. Brisby and The Great Owl. It is in this key scene that the wise old owl instructs the recently widowed mother to seek out the rats of NIMH. The Great Owl’s years of wisdom are hinted at through the wonderful details that make up his character, such as his long grey whiskers and his bushy eyebrows, not to mention the creepy cobwebs hanging off of him.
